As we embark on a new season, we’re looking back on a very successful summer. One of the highlights was the opportunity to train interns at various esteemed companies. We love to bolster the educational value of an internship. Many companies invite us to coach their interns in August so they are better prepared to deliver an end-of-summer presentation. The feedback is amazing!
Alex Eagens, a senior at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, worked as an energy systems engineer intern at Yanmar America in Georgia over the summer. Yanmar hired Greg to provide a two-day training for Alex and the other interns the week before they presented to the president, vice president and upper management.

The prospect of presenting to the president was daunting, Alex said.
“I had some nerves,” he said. “In high school I was more reserved, and I didn’t like presenting in front of people.”
That all changed when Greg arrived.
“It was the first time I’ve had this type of training,” Alex said.
“It was a pretty cool experience. Greg gave us a ton of great information. His willingness to help everybody impressed me. He doesn’t want to just relay the information but ensure that we’re succeeding in our future endeavors because of what he taught us.”
All of Greg’s tips and techniques were helpful, Alex said, especially the pointer on eye contact, which also enabled him to control his pacing and his hands.
“After the training, I was like, ‘Wow, now I can go into my next presentation and implement all these tactics.’ I felt more confident and professional.”
He did exactly that. Not only did Alex’s presentation the following week go well – he had fun! “If you were to tell me, before I did this training, that I would actually enjoy presenting to upper management, I would have thought you were crazy.”
He’s especially grateful that Dardis instruction is so widely relevant. “Even when I’m not presenting, I can use it when I’m talking to others.”
It hasn’t taken long to put his new skills to use. As vice president of a college club, Alex recently presented to a group of 50 students. “It went really well,” he said. “Now I know what I’m doing.”
As graduation nears, Alex is eager to apply his new skills in job interviews. “It was good to get this training early,” he said. “It’s a huge advantage.”
The bestseller “Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die” highlights six core principles for effective communication: simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotions and stories. All six are areas we address in our training, especially credibility and simplicity, which means being able to find the core of an idea. The book is entertaining and also research-based, drawing on fascinating studies about memory, emotion and motivation. Highly recommended!
“Very useful, with practical tips to become a better presenter. I love how the training addressed personal skills and habits to improve.”
